IGCSE Launch at IEST
Tuesday, November 8, 2011 - 2:36pm“We are delighted to be able to offer our students the opportunity to take the International General Certificate in Secondary Education from Cambridge. We know that this is an excellent way for our motivated students to show their academic excellence and be recognized for it at an international level. I have firsthand experience of how many non-native speakers of English excel in the First Language English exams from our IES schools,” explains Ms. Ericsson, the Principal when launching the IGCSE.
At IES Täby we offer students the opportunity to be part of the global learning community by organising the Cambridge IGCSE examinations at our school. We are an accredited Centre for Cambridge International Examinations. This means we are able to offer our students the possibility of having their academic excellence in Science, Maths, English, Spanish and French internationally recognised.
The IGCSE examinations are optional at our school and Cambridge International Examinations takes a small administration fee for the administration of the exams including the external marking in Cambridge.
Due to the success of English as a Second Language last year, we are now also offering English as a First Language, Maths, Science and Modern Languages at our school in June 2012.
The IGCSE courses have a large overlap with the Swedish curriculum; however, we do recommend that students prepare themselves for the examinations in May and June by attending subject tutorials for additional help withMs. Carla Hartburn, IGCSE Examinations Officer coursework, past exam papers and revision.
We would like to invite parents of students in year 8 and 9 to our IGCSE Information meeting for Parents on Tuesday, the 22nd of November at 18.30 in the Academy. The final entries for the May/June 2012 session do not have to be made until January 2012, so students have plenty of time to decide if they want to take part.
We have recently launched this year’s IGCSE subjects and students will over the next few weeks be given information about the courses available from posters in school, information on School Soft, as well as guidance by their subject teachers. Ms Carla Hartburn is the examinations officer and is looking forward to explaining more at the meeting.
