Holiday Greetings December 2019

Holiday Greetings!

December 2019

Dear parents and students,

Our autumn term 2019 is coming to a close and we are looking forward to celebrating our students’ success at our traditional end of term assemblies on the last day of term on Friday 20th December.

Our school targets have a strong focus on our ability to Listen, Learn and Lead in all areas of school life. The student council, buddies and house captains have already played a key role in making the student voice heard and listened to. Thank you!

Our students have shown a very positive attitude this term, showing grit and determination in all that they do, resulting in great academic and social achievements. Well done!

I would like to thank our professional and devoted teachers and staff at IEST who listen, support and engage with our students at IEST. “Going the extra mile” Thank you!

The Christmas holidays are the perfect time to rest and reflect on goals reached and new goals to strive for next term. Please remember that learning is a lifelong journey, so it is never too late to try new ways to get to your journey’s end. We have new year and term starting in January 2020.

Finally, on behalf of the management and staff, I would like to wish everyone a well deserved rest and lots of quality time together.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the new year 2020, with all its possibilities for new year’s resolutions, creativity and success.

Welcome back to school on 9th January 2020.

Carpe Diem.

Senior School Sports Day - The Great Outdoors

Senior School Sports Day - The Great Outdoors

On Wednesday, the 11th of September, all Senior School students participated in a Sports Day that centred around the theme of ‘outdoor life’. Our Year 9 students were based out in the beautiful surrounds of Vaxholm, where they participated in some orienteering and also enjoyed a canoeing session. Year 8 students went out to Skavlöten where, in addition to some orienteering, they also participated in some games that utilised the outdoor environment. The Year 7’s combined some nature activities with some ‘City Orienteering’ around Gamla Stan.

The day, which provided some great teaching and learning opportunities, aimed to engage students in nature with the hope that they will continue to pursue recreational activities in this environment throughout their life. An added benefit was that it gave all classes the chance to strengthen relationships within the class at the beginning of the school year. The teachers certainly enjoyed working with the students on this day and we hope a lot of fun was had by all!

From the Principal

Greetings from the Principal October 2019

Dear students and parents,

We have had a wonderful start to the school year. Yes, our school won the Barbara Bergström Best IES school award for 2019.

Congratulations to everyone at our amazing school: to all our students, staff and parents who make IEST so special.

I am looking forward to seeing parents this week in school for our SPTs. At IEST we really value this mid- term meeting for feedback and goal setting. This is a great opportunity to set goals for academic success and social well being in school. I always promote our Approaches to learning, ATLs as key tools to support students achieving their goals in school. Which ATLs help you succeed?

At IEST we promote an expert approach to learning where grit and learning by our mistakes leads to understanding and growth. Good luck with your meetings and goal setting this week.

School update: The first half of the term has passed by so quickly, students have been active in studies and activities in and outside of school:

Junior school

Year 6 students had Aesthetic days at Skavlöten with creative outside learning task which students really engaged with.

We also had an outside sports day for all of junior school: staff and students really enjoyed the walks and fresh air in our beautiful countryside around Waxholm: most impressive.

Junior school SO dept organised their annual museum visits: a great opportunity to use our Stockholm museums for added learning experiences.

Thank you to the Jr English dept for organising the first House competition!

More news to come on this...

Student Voice

Both Jr and Sr Student Council and Buddies have been very active this school year.  At Sr we have their fantastic newspaper and the Student Council board have come up with several great ideas. Likewise at JR, the suggestion box and SC and Buddies are really helping  promote student voice. The JR school newspaper is coming out soon. Thank you!

Senior school

At Sr we have enjoyed Sports day with orienteering and several trips out to museums by SO and Science. We have listened to speakers in school about health and the environment and the Holocaust for year 9s.

The year 7 and 9s have started the PTA sponsored leadership programme and our year 8s are preparing for PRAO in November.

Yes, a busy half term for us all, so hopefully the autumn holiday next week will give our students and staff a well deserved break.

Autumn Break

I do hope everyone will find time to recharge their batteries, enjoy the glorious autumn colours and be rested and refreshed to come back on Monday 4th November to continue our learning journey together at IEST.

A special thank you to all our teachers and staff for a great start to the school year.

Wishing everyone a lovely autumn break.

Best Regards

Principal's Welcome 2019-20

Welcome to the 2019-20 school year at IEST!

We are excited and well prepared for the start of another great year at IEST.

Our new staff arrived last week for their induction and we are delighted to welcome teachers from New Zealand, the UK, USA, Canada, Spain and Sweden to our school.

We have had an interesting and informative induction week for new staff to get acquainted with IEST and Sweden. We all attended the annual IES All new staff day at the Aula Medica on Tuesday: A great introduction to the IES ethos and culture.

This week we have had staff training and workshops for all our 120 staff. We discuss our quality report and set targets for the new school year based on our school surveys and Academic results. It was wonderful to know that 96% of parents recommend our school and that 95% of students feel safe and secure at our school. However, we have a target for 100% of course!

We started the week with workshops by Lisa Jane Ashes, the UK author of “Teacher in the Cupboard “where we were given practical ideas on solution based strategies for teaching and learning from a student and teacher perspective. A great resource cupboard of ideas for us to use this school year.

We have been busy this summer, our school is looking pristine after our annual total repainting of the inside of school and extensive cleaning. We now have new furniture in all our regular classrooms in Senior school and have started phase one of new furniture in Jr school. We have updated the Senior student lounge and Junior school indoor lighting and playground. Lots of lovely additions await your arrival at school.

I am also very happy about the new IEST diaries for junior school in our house colours! What a great job everyone has done designing these.

We have very high standards and expectations at IEST and our students as always excelled in year 9 last year, graduating with 291 as the average Merit points! Well done to all.

We are looking forward to another successful year in 2019-20 and we will continue to promote our student voice with our motto of Listen, Learn and Lead to continue being an Expert school with Expert teachers and learners.

I am so happy that we will be welcoming 1270 students to our six year group assemblies on Monday 19th August.

I am also looking forward to meeting parents at our back to school nights over the next couple of weeks.

We look forward to meeting you at school next week.

Carpe Diem
